Hunter brought the cold glass bottle to my lips, and I closed my eyes to better appreciate the flavor.

“Mmmmm.” Hints of caramel, a touch of cinnamon, and was that…nutmeg? I licked my lips. “Tastes like autumn.”

“Next,” Hunter said softly. There was a clink as he set down the bottle, and another as he picked the second one up. Then that cool glass was against my warm mouth again, and I shivered as I felt his breath ghost against the back of my neck. I could practically feel the heart radiating off his body behind me. A drop of condensation slipped down the neck of the bottle, rolling down the fevered skin of my neck.

Oh, right, the beer. I took a gulp, hoping the cool liquid would calm my disordered thoughts. No such luck—but it was delicious, strongly hoppy this time, notes of lime and orange and vanilla, with a peppery finish. “Damn, that’s good. It’s like spring!”

“I’m glad you like it,” Hunter murmured. His arm encircled my waist—no, he was just reaching for another bottle, no, that was his other hand, this one was definitely resting on my waist, lightly, just above my hipbone.

I didn’t dare open my eyes, for fear I would find I was only dreaming.

“Another?” Hunter invited.

“Yes please.” My voice was a whisper, hoarse with desire I hoped he couldn’t hear.

And there it came, his gentle hands guiding it to my mouth, the smooth glass with its beads of moisture kissing my skin, and that that ambrosia sliding slowly down my throat: brown sugar and anise and a hint of…chocolate.

“Ooooooh,” I moaned in appreciation. I licked my lips.

And heard a sharp intake of breath from Hunter. “You like that?” he whispered.

“So much,” I replied, feeling the heat in my body gather itself tight and low.

Even with my eyes closed I was vividly aware of how close he was standing to me; I could smell him, hear each breath he took. His hand on my waist seemed to grip a fraction tighter, wrinkling the fabric of my dress—the hand holding the bottle seemed to tremble slightly, I could feel his breath ruffling my hair as he bent closer, those warm lips only inches from—

My eyes burst open and I almost leapt away from him. We didn’t have time for sexual tension! That was what had gotten us into trouble in the first place. My mind fluttered rapidly over possible topics of redirection.

It was difficult. It mostly wanted to think of Hunter shirtless.

Maybe pantsless too.

Yeah….definitely pantsless.

She wants to turn up the heat. He’s got the skills to whip her into a frenzy.TV food show host Tabbart Tracy works hard to give viewers her best recipes. But while her fans are legion, her personal life is colder than a meat locker. Most men just want her to serve up some pie—in the nude.

One glance at her assistant’s sexy brother, though, and her body skips straight from low simmer to rolling boil. Especially when she tracks him down at a stud ranch. Where he’s the stud.

When a certain little TV foodie personally requests Stowe’s company for a week, he’s flattered as hell. She needs to give up some control, and as a sex therapist otherwise known as the “Dom from Down Under”, Stowe has the leather, rope, and paddles to do it.

Just as Tabbart melts into a puddle under Stowe’s hands, her worst fear chills her back to reality: someone recognizes her. Worse, her Master frowns on opening her checkbook to make it all go away. But trusting him means hanging onto their connection with both hands—while he takes her for the ride of her life.

Warning: This book contains a TV chef looking for some R&R (as in rough and raunchy) and a whip-wielding Aussie cowboy Dom intent on showing her she can take the heat. As hot as—and anywhere—she wants it.

Then she saw it—a glimpse of black. A pickup truck with the door hanging open. She barely had time to conjure the words of the greeting she’d prepared when her door opened and a big male arm reached inside. Sprinkled with dark hair, a thick leather watch strapped around the wrist.

Her mind was wiped clean as she looked into a set of very dark eyes staring at her from under the black hat she’d come to know so well. The upward curl of his lip made her heart turn over painfully, then gallop out of control. She sat there like an idiot.

He gripped her hands and pulled her to her feet. She locked her knees to keep from falling over, then Stowe’s trim backside moved away from her. He opened the trunk of the car and hauled her luggage out.

When he spun and fixed her in his gaze again, she released the breath she’d been holding. Her pulse pounded in her ears. God, she was acting like a young girl with her first crush. She was a grown woman. She was…

At a sex ranch with the man of her fantasies.

Her pussy clenched.

“This all you got?” he drawled in that hot accent.

“Y-yes.” Stutter activated.

He grasped her forearm as he passed. The warmth and roughness of his hand on her bare arm scalded. Sweat broke out on her forehead. He opened the passenger door of the truck for her and guided her inside, then dumped her suitcase in the bed.

Her hand twitched to shove her glasses up and get a real look at him, but she couldn’t blow her cover. She watched as he swaggered back to the silver car, pulled his wallet from the back pocket of worn jeans—molded to his fine ass—and took out some bills. He handed them to the driver through the window. Then he tapped the car roof twice and the driver moved off in a new cloud of dust.

I’m alone with him.

In the middle of nowhere. He could do anything to her. Strip her, fuck her. God, she wanted both.

Hazel

I’ve spent my younger years acting, safe in a world of make-believe. I learnt to transform into roles to hold onto a sense of harmony in my life.

Years later, still in that moment, I am another face. Another mask. I am not me—the forgotten daughter, the quiet friend, the unrequited love.

Until the pretending becomes meaningless.

And my life hardens again.

I’m tired of acting for my friends when my parents ignore me. I’m tired of acting for myself when I want the world to stop being so hard. I’m tired of holding back from the only man I’ve ever loved.

Even though being drawn to him petrifies me above all else.

When I act to him, he sees right through me.

Each and every time.

Robbie

She has haunted my dreams for years. The girl I teased to watch her blush. The girl I watched in quiet agony. The girl I had a chance with, one I ruined when I pushed her away.

Now, after all these years, she’s returning to work for me. A ruse to make her mine.

I will show her that she deserves to be cherished, and loved. I’ll bring back that goddess who took my breath away when I was twenty.

You only live once. Side by side, I only want this final lifetime spent with her.

Robbie

“Your eggs!” Nonna suddenly yells at Trice, startling us as we sit at the table as she points to her. I pass Hazel the Corn Flakes as I reach out for the toast that Mamma has prepared. I stare at Nonna, confused, wondering if one of us was meant to go to the chicken coup to grab some eggs this morning.

“Nonna, we’ve been here before. We have plenty of time,” Trice pleads, her voice gently trying to placate her. “You really should stop watching Dr Phil.”

“It’ll be too late!” She sighs, holding her hand to her chest. “They will be gone soon.” She looks over to Hazel, then her eyes barrel into mine. “You need to hurry up too.”

“Nonna, have you got Grappa in your coffee this morning?” I laugh, trying to knock the worried look from her face.

Mamma brings over the percolator and holds it up for us. I nod and lift my cup while shifting my eyes to Nonna then back to her. She chuckles as she finishes pouring.

“Trice, you do have plenty of time. You know Nonna is just impatient.”

I poke my tongue into my cheek for a moment and then I sip my coffee while wondering if Nonna is starting to lose it.

Trice sees my confusion and waves her hand at me. “It’s nothing to worry about. Nonna saw an episode on Dr Phil about fertility and apparently by my age, my eggs will start to shrivel up. She just wants to be a bisnonna.”

I laugh as Alex’s face pales, causing Trice to laugh—loud. “It’s okay, babe. We’re fine, remember?” she teases, rubbing his arm. He relaxes and shakes his head. I chuckle as his eyes flick over to me and he mouths arsehole.

Mamma moves behind me to Hazel and offers her some coffee. Dr Phil has a lot to answer for when it came to my Nonna.

Book Review: ‘Badass In My Bed’ by Rae Lynn Blaise

Title: Badass In My Bed (Badass #1)

Published: 23rd June 2015

Publisher: Bigger On The Inside

Author: Rae Lynn Blaise

Facebook: www.facebook.com/authorraelynnblaise / www.facebook.com/raelynn.blaise

Synopsis:

My life is music. I play it, I live it, I breathe it. Next week, I start my dream job playing cello with the Boston Symphony. My father might finally be proud of me, and I… well, I’ll have my music.

Then I met Dylan—tattooed, badass, always-hard Dylan. He’s nothing like anyone I’ve ever been with before. Just one night can’t hurt me.

But sometimes when you play with fire, you get burned.

Review:

After the lengthy books I have read lately I wanted a chance to read something a bit lighter but still with a good storyline. This book ticked both of those boxes. Short, snappy and straight to the point – I loved it!

Rachael is having one last hurrah with her best friend before leaving Chicago for a new job as part of the Boston Symphony. Throughout the evening you definitely get the impression that Rachael is convincing her friend as much as herself that this move is the right decision for her. While waiting for the drinks to arrive she happens to glance around the bar where she spots someone who is so not her usual type but someone she can’t stop thinking about either. Her friend seems to think that if this is her last night out here then she should go out with a bang – for starters she can go chat up the hot tattooed guy she can’t stop staring at.

The moment she sees him in a booth at the back of the bar she is entranced. He is the personification of a bad boy rocker and for some reason she really wants to let her alter ego take over and go to him. Especially after he spots her staring and keeps looking at her as much as she is at him. Her friend helps her out in this regard, as she can see Rachael won’t, by buying him a drink and saying its from her. On her way back from the bathroom, while walking past his booth, he stops her to say thank you and asks her to sit. Well with the type of domineering voice he has it’s more of a command that she really doesn’t want to say no to.

Dylan is all kinds of hot, from his tattooed body to his voice, and it doesn’t take him long before he asks if they should get out of there. Even before he says it she knows what her answer will be – a big fat YES. Once back at her place though the nerves start to get the best of her, he does give her an out though saying that if she doesn’t want this to happen to say so in the next two seconds because after that he doesn’t know if he will be able to leave. With the need and want on his face all for her Rachael tells him she doesn’t want him to go – to which he rewards her with a toe curling kiss. Which is only the start of the hotter than a fire fun that they have. She has had sex before but tonight she is going to get well and truly f**ked and love every second of it. She tells herself that it is just a one-night stand and no one will get hurt but the moment he gets ready to leave she starts to have regrets. Not that she met him but that she let him go.

I loved how that even though the book was a short read you still got a feel for the characters personalities. Rachael is clearly hiding something about how she got into the Boston Symphony and Dylan is hiding about whom he really is. Rachael thinks that she can just have the memory of their time together as just that, a memory but when she finds out whom Dylan really is the temptation to try and get in contact might just get the best of her. Can’t wait to read the next instalment – bring on Badass In My Bed #2!

Book Review: ‘Splendor’ by Janet Nissenson

Title: Splendor (Inevitable #2)

Published: 11th June 2014

Publisher: BookBaby

Author: Janet Nissenson

Facebook: www.facebook.com/janetnissensonauthor

Twitter: @jnissenson

Goodreads: www.goodreads.com/author/show/7375780.Janet_Nissenson

Synopsis:

British hotelier Ian Gregson had it all – wealth, good looks, power, and a share in his family’s worldwide, multi-billion dollar luxury hotel chain. His very name was synonymous with sophistication and elegance, and any woman he wanted could be his with just a look. But the only woman he truly desired was strictly forbidden to him for too many reasons to count.

Tessa Lockwood was young, beautiful, and lonely, despite the fact that she was a married woman. Her life had not been an easy one, and the extravagant world she caught glimpses of as an employee of the Gregson Hotel Group was far beyond anything she could ever dream of. She could no more imagine herself ensconced in that sort of luxurious lifestyle than she could attracting the attention of her handsome, debonair boss.

Ian and Tessa secretly long for each other from afar, never daring to reveal their forbidden attraction to the other, until circumstances bring them together in a very unexpected way. And from that point on, nothing will stand in Ian’s way to finally make her his.

AUTHOR’S NOTE – despite what you might be thinking at this point, there is NO cheating in this story – just an incredibly romantic hero who will make you swoon with the way in which he sweeps the heroine off her feet!

Review:

This is the second book in the Inevitable series and I just have to say WOW. Another great storyline, you sort of get hooked as soon as you start reading. It can be read as a stand alone but with a book this good you will want to check out Janet’s others aswell to give yourself a better understanding about who all the characters are.

You kind of already got introduced to the two main characters from Serendipity. Ian is a very important businessman whose family owns a multi-billion dollar luxury hotel chain. He has had a thing for Tessa from the moment she walked into his office after being introduced as a new member of his staff. He fell for her like a ton of bricks and now two years later he is still longing for the one woman he wants most but can’t have due to her being married, as well as being an employee and fifteen years his junior.

Tessa is a bit of a shy to start with, wouldn’t say boo to a ghost, she isn’t very sure of herself and its not until you find out more about her back story that you understand a bit more about why she is the way she is. She isn’t very trusting of herself or people around her. You just want the best for her after all the hardships she has had to overcome. She has had a secret crush on her very attractive boss for as long as she can remember. Even though she is married its not your everyday marriage and once you find out why you can understand why she would want to live in her fantasy world for a bit longer. Longing for her boss who she wouldn’t think would look her way in a million years. The book starts out that she is still married but I have to point out that this book is not about infidelity in the slightest. You find out very early on that she is going to get a divorce, her husband deciding to let her go so she can try and find a partner who can give her the things that he can’t.

To say that Ian thinks all his Christmas’ have come at once at the Christmas party would be an understatement. When he sees Tessa leaving he decides to follow her out to make sure she gets home ok. He happens to ask about her husband and almost gets floored by her answer that they are actually getting a divorce. He starts to conduct an idea that he would slowly woo her the following week while she fills in for his PA but that all sort of changes the moment he sees her half naked standing in his office bathroom doorway. She has really only just got her blouse off wearing a bra that has seen better days barely keeping her in, but I don’t think he has ever been more thankful for an ink cartridge spilling in his life. When Tessa turns round to see Ian standing right there she is like a rabbit caught in head lights, not sure what to do. But with his domineering voice saying ‘come here’ she is just drawn to him completely. The first kiss they have is just like wow, very steamy, backed against a wall, hands over her head and being completely taken by Ian in the best way possible – not that Tessa is complaining. Showing you that it’s the start of what’s to come.

Ian and Tessa’s relationship is a very intense one, with her being so inexperienced in many ways he takes to giving her lots of firsts – the bedroom department being the main focus here. I would say that their relationship to start with is about 80% in the bedroom and not always restricted to there! When they start to get going its gets so hot in places that I thought my kindle was going to go up in flames. To say that they are addicted to each other would be an understatement. Tessa starts out as a shy timid little mouse but the moment she gets with Ian she turns in a bit a wild cat. With the amount of sexanthons that they have throughout you can see that they can’t seem to get enough of each other. It’s electrifying when you see them in a room together. It doesn’t need to start off as anything sexual, Tessa can just be looking at Ian from a distance and with the more she looks, the more she wants and when he sees he passion in her eyes you can tell that he will do everything to keep it there by taking her in every which way he can think of. The saying it’s the quiet ones you need to watch as they have the most fun definitely comes to mind when thinking about Tessa. Ian is a very domineering character who wants nothing more than to just take care of Tessa in everyway possible, especially when he finds out more about her past. The love and passion between them just grows and grows throughout.

I thought a few characters storylines could have been developed a bit further though – vial Jason’s being one of them, maybe made it a bit darker like the end of Serendipity when Julia gets shot at. I do love Ian’s mother though with Alicia, its hilarious when she finds her having a go at Tessa, Alicia can’t believe Ian would pick Tessa over someone like her, calling her a gold-digger and saying Ian will get board of her soon enough. So Ian’s mother calmly steps in and says ‘So how long have you been working for the company my dear’ and when she replies five years she’s like ‘Well that will look good on your CV, something I think you should touch up while writing your resignation tomorrow’ – brilliant just brilliant.

Even though it did feel a little long in places you do get a good ending for them; which is what you hope for with a romance. Ian seems like the best type of boyfriend in the world. He would do anything for Tessa and she in turn would do anything for him. It seems to be though that whenever she says something like ‘You’re my world, I’d do anything for you’, he turns into a bit of a wild animal, cave man mode almost in the bedroom which she does appreciate very much. I loved how you still had characters from Serendipity making an appearance – Nathan and Julia mainly but also her sister who I can’t wait to read more about. Overall a very interesting read, great story, great writing, amazing sex scenes, so well worth checking out. Looking forward to the rest in the series.
