Mark Lyon was a beast in the boardroom. Building websites and branding corporations for success was his specialty, and he was good at it. Mark worked hard to earn his place at the top of his field. He let nothing stand in his way, not even Christmas.
Charity Clarke captured Mark’s attention with her dirty mouth at first meeting, but her giving spirit stole his heart without notice. When she goes missing, will finding Charity be the gift with enough love and hope to save them both?
A sweet, short, hot little read that goes down as another off my 2016 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book set at Christmas time.
There is a bit of a scrooge feel to this book. Mark doesn’t really do Christmas and isn’t really one for giving back. That all changes though after he meets a beauty in a black dress at a work function – he just doesn’t know it yet. Bold moves from both sides right from the moment they meet. After barely anytime at all he convinces her to go home with him. All he is thinking about is that she is one present he really wouldn’t mind unwrapping that year. He just knows that what’s underneath will be great – something he finds out while on a very heated cab ride back to his place.
After a night of fun he wakes up to an empty bed and he is not too sure right away whether he is happy about that fact or not. Thinking he is fine he decides to go about his day only to stumble across Charity outside the Our Lady of Sorrows Church surrounded by a crowd. He is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. She thinks he might be there to help with the food drive but his only thought is to help her back to his place and back to his bed. She insists that she can’t just leave so gives him two choices, either to help or leave her to do her job. The sooner she gets done she sooner he can get her naked back at his place so his choice is made quite quickly. Even though his only reason to help to begin with is to get Charity naked back at his place that soon changes after spending some time with the people he is there to help. You can almost see his perspective changing while reading as he sees people from many different walks of life come together needing a bit of help.
Charity is all about giving back and after only spending a few days together you can see she has gotten under his skin, changing him for the better. She brings out the good in him that he has kept hidden and the instant chemistry and connection between them is great. When he finds her missing he almost looses it but in the process of trying to find her he shows his new character by showing kindness to others. She is in the full front of his mind and he will do anything to be able to find her and make sure she is safe. It’s at this point that he realises that he wants to keep her for longer than just a Christmas fling. He just has to find her first before his Christmas wish of keeping her can come true.
A nice little read showing that giving is better than receiving as you get much more of a reward in the end from it. I did have a moment while reading though thinking that this story could go another way but thankfully is passed and all was well. Definitely a Christmas read with lots of cheer.
