Book Review: ‘Roaring Out Loud’ by Joetta Spurling

Roaring Out Loud

Title: Roaring Out Loud

Published: 14th July 2016

Author: Joetta Spurling

Nicole and Richard are on their way to a wedding, when he kicks her out of his car. Running Into the woods Nicole spends the night alone sleeping against a tree. Waking in the morning, Nicole finds herself lost. Not knowing which way to go she heads off in the wrong direction. Is Destiny helping her with her happily ever after, or is it another case of Murphy’s Law?

Well Nicole starts at a very low point but things are only looking up, not that she will see it that way straight after her asshole boyfriend hits her, pushes her out of the car and then leaves her on the side of the road. Lets just say karma is a bitch and it has his number marked! The lucky part was that Titan saw Nicole. But its not like he can come right up to see if she is ok just yet with being already shifted into a werelion. Nicole’s only option after being left on the road is to run and hide. Fear that Richard will find her again keeps her going, even after falling over a few times. Seems she has finally come to the conclusion that her boyfriend needs to become her ex. She is done and can only think about escape. Tired from running she soon exhausts herself to the point of collapsing by a tree. Good job she has Titan watching over her while she sleeps.

From the moment Titan spots Nicole he is drawn to her. He feels an overwhelming need to protect her and to hurt the one who hurt her. After shifting to escape his own feelings from the loss of his father he soon finds another reason to feel. Not wanting to scare her he decides to leave to get food so he can come back in his human form. The food goes down a treat but what follows is much more fun. After finding that Nicole has made her way to his favourite place, a waterfall, he is glad she calls him out after leaving the food. The moment they are closer though the heat starts to rush between them. When he touches her foot to see if it is ok to walk on its like all bets are off and they can’t get enough of each other. Reality sets in before any real fun can start but you know its just now bubbling below the surface.

The community Titan and his pride live in is a very close net one, it would have to be to keep everyone safe. It’s the best place for Nicole to regroup but also to figure out what this connection is with Titan. Others in the pride might not see her in a kind light and it could place her in danger. It seems that Nicole has a few aces up her sleeve though when push comes to shove. Willing to do whatever it takes to protect what’s hers.

The connection is one thing but starting something with someone who has no clue about shifters being real is not something Titan thought he would have to do. Being the new alpha of the pride he probably thought he would be with another shifter – well you never know! But it seems Nicole’s reading habits might make his talk a little easier. Seems she likes reading shifter books with passion and bite. Fantasy turned into reality for her I think!

Loved Titans mother and friends as it gave the story more depth without it just focusing on two main characters. Introducing Nicole’s mother and grandmother into the mix just leads it up nicely for a few more books in the series. Richard soon sees that karma can and does come back to bite you in the neck when he makes more bad decisions. Same thing for a certain member of the pride too! When a guy says its not going to work you should probably listen girl.

Great start to the series with interesting characters that you engaged with easily. Could definitely have used a final edit though to get rid of the spelling and grammar mistakes but didn’t take it too far away from the story because of it. Show me who’s the real king of the jungle? Make him roar! Something Nicole is only too happy to oblige with.

Unedited and subject to change.

Holy mother of all hangovers.

I’d succumbed to the lure of Vegas and gotten completely wasted. Granted, that’s what everyone did in Las Vegas but I like to think I usually have more sense than the social norm.

I rub my eyes and blink them open. The hotel room comes into formation around me. The walls are a warm golden color and the flat screen on the wall plays some home improvement show. I can see the bathroom from the bed, the tiled walls and large soaking tub.

I roll over onto my side, hoping I can sleep off the hangover, and reel back.

“Oh my God,” I cry, flailing in bed.

My legs kick the sleeping guy beside me.

Not just any sleeping guy.

Oh no.

Xander Kincaid, my brother’s best friend, lays in the bed beside me.

His dark hair tumbles over his forehead and his cheeks are covered with several days worth of scruff. His chest is bare and…holy shit. He’s naked.

I look down.

Oh God, I’m naked too.

“What’s wrong?” He asks, reaching his left hand out to pull me closer to him. That’s when I see it.

“Is that a wedding band?” I scream shrilly.

His eyes narrow. “You don’t fucking remember?”

I shake my head and look at my own hand. A thin silver band rests on my finger. “What did we do?”

He sits up in bed and I try to ignore how adorably rumpled he looks with his hair sticking up.

Everything begins flooding back to me in quick bursts.

Confessions of love and desire.

A wedding chapel.

A contract.

“We’re married,” I whisper. “Holy shit.” It’s all I’ve ever wanted—to be with Xander, but not like this. Never like this. “My brother is going to kill us.”

Book Review: ‘Perv’ by Dakota Gray

Title: Perv (Filth Book 1)

Published: 23rd August 2016

Author: Dakota Gray

Revenge has never tasted so sweet.

I’m honest about what I am. You want to screw until you can’t see straight? I’m your guy. You want to experience the best oral orgasm of your life, don’t pass go and collect two-hundred dollars. Eating you for dessert is my specialty. I live for that. Skinny, average or meat on your bones, I don’t care. Blonde, brunette…white, Asian, black…

Are you pink where it counts? Then you’re my type.

I’m your guy.

For the duration of our affair, I will call you Sugar because I can’t bother to retain your name.

That’s the kind of man I am, and you will know that going in. I make sure of it.

So it’s not my fault her friend loved me, but She is going to make me pay for that.

And I’m too addicted to her taste to walk away.

Goes down as another off my 2016 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book a friend recommended. OMG I loved this book so much, it’s some seriously seductive reading! Perv by name perv by nature but hey Nate knows what he’s good at and likes to give a woman just what she needs. You may need a fan to cool yourself down with in places though because there is some seriously sizzling chemistry going on between Nate and Robyn. It’s almost too hot to put into words but hey I’m going to give it a go!

Nate doesn’t do relationships, not for any obvious reasons, it’s just he likes to stick with what he’s good at. Too bad he’s about to meet his match and she’s going to give him one hell of a run around. Nate’s ‘speciality’ as he sees it is his ability to give amazing, out of this world oral sex. He’s good and he knows it, you will see stars and be begging him to go again – not that he will mind if your flavour is to his liking. He only has a few rules; things to keep him in check and make sure people don’t get hurt. He tells the many women he sees what it is between them from the start so doesn’t really think too much about their feelings when it’s over. As soon as it looks like they might be taking it too seriously he breaks it off. Which is where we start, Nate once again is on the prowl for a new fix if you will and the beauty at the bar is whom he’s got in his sights. Seems she’s of the same mind but as soon as she catches his name she begins to play a game that she’s not sure how to finish. It appears that she wants to teach him a lesson. She knows exactly who he is and what he does with women as a friend of hers was one of his women who got hurt. Not that he can remember Loraine’s name anyway – well at first. He can’t even remember her name so decides to call her Stealth and Heels from how she looks and acts. She’s a complete mystery and after rejecting him, even after he’s had a little taste (she ends up being very bold in the club with where she puts his hand), she thinks she leaves with the upper hand and that that’s it. Nate has a bit of an addictive personality though so he was never going to let her disappear without knowing more. He has her taste locked in his mind and is willing to do anything to get another, though next time it would be with his mouth. Good job his friend is a lawyer and his staff are good at finding information on people. Which leads him right to Stealth’s favourite coffee shop lying in wait.

When Robyn sees he found her she tries to put up a front about being totally unaffected by his presence but the moment she’s with her friend and away from him you get a glimpse into what’s going on in her head. Hello racing heart and libido going crazy. Seems her friend has some ideas on how to help her, mainly by telling her to get it out of her system. He only needs ten minutes, or so she’s been told, so one time can’t hurt, can it? Well one time with his mouth on her and she’s seeing stars. Seems they are soon about to become more addicted to each other than they planned. Nate can’t get enough of her but knows she is carrying a big secret. She keeps giving him clues as to who her friend was which narrows it down but doesn’t give the real reason why she’s out for revenge against him in the first place. Something his friends do seem to keep reminding him about when things start to get a bit complicated with them.

The chemistry between them is off the charts crazy, even when they don’t want to want each other. Each is into a little kink so it’s interesting to see how they handle each other’s quirks. Lets just say that when you challenge Nate he will take you up on it – hello foreplay you’re my new best friend! When you get to that part in the book you may need a fan.

The twist in the story, one I did see early on but still the way its written is just golden, soon paves the way for chaos to stir between them. It’s gritty to the core in those moments when the truth is finally revealed; you really do feel for Nate and Robyn in them. Good job Nate’s friends Duke and Tarek are good at meddling or it might have turned out differently. They clearly have a very strong bond and will look out for each other no matter what.

Great bit of writing, very addictive, so good you won’t want to put it down. I will definitely want to continue with the series. These three men have very different personalities but you just know that they are all going to be insanely passionate in the bedroom or anywhere else they can find. Can’t wait for Duke’s story – Hardcore!

“Since you seem to know everything about me, tell me something.”

“Tell me my name.” She raises a brow.

I pull a hand through my hair and figure shit is going south anyway. I lean down so my mouth is right on her earlobe. “Stealth.”

She puts a hand to my chest and laughs. “What?”

“You put your tits on the counter to get the bartender’s attention. That’s stealthy so…Stealth and Heels.”

“And or in?” There’s amusement in her tone and she hasn’t pushed me away.

“So you’re admitting you have no idea what my name is?”

To my surprise she leans into me, leaving no room between us. My cock perks to attention. Her dress is a second skin. I can pretend for a moment she’s bare against me, and though I’m not a tits man, hers are full and soft—I want to lick, bite and suck them until her eyes roll back.

She tilts her head and we’re cheek to cheek. “I know what you are, Nathan. I know what you need.”

She’s speaking words, but all I can hear in her low, sultry tone is fuck me hard. And I’m an accommodating man. “Are you going to give it to me?”

What? I’m not going to say no. Or talk her out of whatever she’s planning to do.

“You torture women, you know that, right?” The huskiness in her voice is the best friction.

“Torture?” I ask.

“Mind blowing head. And then they have to somehow live the rest of their lives cold turkey or with second best. That makes you an asshole.”

“Not my fault I’m good at what I do.”

She shifts and her skin brushes my cheek again. “It is when you know damn well the woman is looking to settle down.”

“I never lie.”

“You never turn a woman away either.”

“They’re all adults.” I don’t fuck women who need help. Genuine help. Telling her that feels too much like defending my life choices. I don’t make a woman believe I can love her. That’s cruel.

She huffs. “You have every intention of destroying her world.”

Red flashes over my vision at the accusation. “And what are you going to do about it, Sugar?”

She laughs—I’m not sure if it’s at me—and I fucking feel the sound in my every bone. “You want a taste of me, Nathan?”

Book Review: ‘Perfectly Toxic’ by C.M. Owens

Perfectly Toxic

Title: Perfectly Toxic (The Sterling Shore Series Book 9)

Published: 26th July 2016

Author: C.M. Owens

Twitter: @cursetrilogyM

New life. New job. New home. New goals…
I vowed to make drastic changes and to never fall back into old habits. But then Ethan Noles showed up and blew all my good intentions to hell. I should have stayed away. I shouldn’t have played his game.
But I did.
Now I just hope I don’t regret it.

Bella is the type of girl you can’t help but chase, because she doesn’t want to be caught. I came back ready to live and enjoy life. Not to get tethered to a girl. But… shit happens. Bella happens. And everything I thought I wanted slowly changes.

*Graphic language
*Adult content
*And yeah, there’s sex.

Goes down as another off my 2016 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book by an author who uses initials in their pen name. Well we finally find out why Bella and technology don’t go hand in hand and it’s not just her. It seems a few of those naughty Sterling boys have been messing with our girl Bella but lets say fate had a hand in it as well to be able to get her talking to our boy Ethan.

Ethan’s only been back in Sterling Shore for a few weeks and already finds himself in the emergency room due to an unfortunate incident with a crazy one-night stand and a broken beer bottle. His night might just be looking up though when Bella strolls in. From the moment he sees her he is intrigued so goes full on charm. Shame its to no effect though – well almost to no effect as she rejects him after he shows her a little more than she was expecting. Well they did tell him to strip off before putting the gown on so he was being a good boy and doing what he was told. So when Bella is sorting out his cut high up on his leg her eyes get drawn to his crotch when he leans back. Yep by the piercings he has (Jacobs ladder – wowzer!) you can understand why Bella might just whimper. But she has sworn off all playboys like him and won’t be drawn into his game. Shame Ethan has no intention of listening though. It seems he actually felt her when she patted his cheek. Confused? Yep me too until later in the book, when it’s explained more though you will just want to give him a hug. Anyway this just makes her that much more appealing, he needs to see if it was a fluke because she caught him off guard or not. Seems she’s a trigger for him, one he’s going to be very pleased he met.

Bella has tried to change her way of dating due to some bad choices in her past. So finds herself on some god awful dates. They either bore her head off or turn out to be narcissistic assholes. Good job Ethan is there to help mix things up when he crashes one of them. I think the fact he hasn’t had someone turn him down before means he can’t give up the chase. So turning into full stalker mode he ends up calling his number from her phone so he can talk to her. To say she is not impressed would be an understatement – I mean she changes his name to asshole. It’s when he starts texting her that he has the pleasure of getting full Bellared (yes I decided her name can be a verb in relation to her texting) ‘stupid ducking phone!’ Love her.

It’s while he is at one of the many Sterling peeps gatherings that he finds out that Bella is part of the group, which at first makes it more interesting. Not so much though when he finds out she won’t date anyone within her circle of friends. Seems Ethan isn’t giving up, and after a very big act of kindness, Bella can’t stay away either. He’s the first person she thought of when it happened and it seems saying that was the right answer because his reaction is beyond hot. He has the muscles to hold her up and he definitely seems to prefer walls to any other surface when it comes to taking her. Not wanting to burst the bubble they have created Bella wants to keep them hidden, at least for now, not that Ethan is too happy about it. Only problem with the ‘would be’ romance is Ethan’s view on why he came back to Sterling Shore from Chicago. He took over his fathers business at 18 and has spent 10 years working his ass off. It means he has a very warped view that he missed out on all his partying years so wants to make up for lost time, something Bella isn’t keen on.

She has already done the crazy drunken years and wants to settle down. How much of his antics can she take? He seems to be to push people away without thought when he feels threatened or fear of being hurt himself. It’s this rash behaviour that Bella doesn’t want to deal with but when a shock revelation turns everything on its head she’s going to have to face it. OMG Ethan’s reaction at the hospital (won’t tell you why he’s there though) is heart wrenching. His and all their friends too. They have become a very intricate group over the years and I love that it’s getting bigger. Can’t wait to see it grow when Dale and Mav get hooked – your time is coming boys so watch out! Ethan and Bella might be toxic but in the best way. Totally made for each other. I wonder if he’s going to mention what those boys have done to her phone though or if he will let the craziness continue?

Only thing I’m disappointed in is that there wasn’t a preview of the next book at the end of this one 😦 Also got a little worried for Brin and Rye for a moment there. Glad it all worked out in a very Brin/Rye prank war kind of way though. Everyone else seemed to be going ok. Love that they are all interlinked with each other’s stories now. Poor Kode will he ever get Tria to change her mind on marriage. I have a feeling it could happen in the next one – fingers crossed! Oh and we know time has passed a bit because Tag and Ash have had their little girl Autumn, Fall for short – so sweet! The series books can all be read as standalones but to get the whole picture I would recommend reading in order, that and the series is great anyway so you should pick it up!
