Synopsis:

Dear diary…and anyone else who will listen:
Tonight, I met the man of my dreams.
Literally.

***

Whoever said living in California was glamorous and easy-going lied through their fucking teeth. I guess I can blame reality TV for that pervasive B.S. Maybe it was good thing my old man banned television at home for all the years he was alive, after all. I probably would’ve been even more deluded than I was when I’d moved up here from Arkansas three months ago.

Looking back, I’m not even sure why I did it; why, of all the places I could’ve chosen to start a new life, I picked Los Angeles: one of the most expensive places in the world to live. I don’t even know anyone one here. Heck, I’d never even visited the city before my move.

Still, I’m determined to make it here, to make something of myself. And that means I have no time for distractions of any kind—especially guys.

But then, he comes along; the sexiest, strongest, most handsome, most intimidating, and most powerful man I’ve ever seen.

He’s absolutely gorgeous, with eyes that seem to burn right through my soul and the most charming smile in existence, and his allure, his entire being, is simply magnetic.

He’s impossibly beautiful and just…ugh, perfect. He’s perfect. He’s everything every woman—and possibly quite a few men—wants, including me.

What I’m not prepared for, though, is how much he wants me, too.

However, there are three problems.

One: He’s not a man.

Two: I can only see him in my dreams.

And three: He commands an army of soul reapers.

And, apparently, that’s just the beginning…

Review:

Goes down as another off my 2017 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book from a series new to you. Eli calls to Matthiel like no other and it seems she was drawn to him too. I mean she did get sucked right into his world with barely a stray thought.

The saying find the man of your dreams is quite literal for Eli as she gets sucked into a vivid dream world where the man in question confronts her. All starts after she gets home from work in a kind of sleepy slumber only just making it to her bed before collapsing fast asleep. She doesn’t stay asleep long though as she wakes up in a strange dream. Not that she knows at first it is a dream. Waking up on a soft bed to find its grass and that you’re in the middle of a meadow is one big clue though. She feels nervous and a bit unsure about where she is, how she got there and more importantly being scared by a bunch of crows. She may run away at first but soon its like her body – specifically her feet – have other ideas and make her run back towards them and to a building that seems to have appeared out of nowhere. Something about it makes her feel calmer and she almost feels a pull from inside urging her to enter. Well she would do if she could find a door; her dream seems to want to pull her in though so in she goes. This is where the small house starts to change and gold seems to be the decor of choice. She can’t believe she could create such a vivid place and soon thinks she may not be in a dream at all. Especially when confronted by the most beautiful man she has ever seen. One who manages to stun her to silence with one look, annoying him to no end, though not for long.

Loved the back and forth banter between them and that you got to see it from both their point of views with the end chapters being from Matthiel’s. Banter getting stronger when he insists on calling her kitten due to her cat like qualities. When he starts to explain these to her you can almost see her melt before him. He is drawn out of his work by a scent he can’t place but one he very much wants to get closer to. When he figures out it’s coming from her he starts to want her with a passion. The “why” she is there is pushed aside for him for the time being but its something he’s going to want to know if she’s to be able to come back.

A soul reaper and a human wouldn’t usually meet until it’s their time but it seems Eli is an exception to that rule. Bit of a cliff hanger ending but its good and makes you want to check out the next in the series. Liked this one as it had more interaction between the two of them and felt like it was setting the story up better with where it might lead. Can’t wait to check out where this one is going.
