The perfect man for me is the one who broke my heart.

#thanksbutnothanks

Once bitten.

Twice shy.

Yeah, I wish.

I’m on a mission to find myself a nice, solid, respectable man. The only problem is nice, solid, and respectable comes in a meh package and is B-O-R-I-N-G as hell.

It’s been established. I have one type. Bad Boy. I tried the other flavors, I really did. But there’s nothing like the allure of a man who takes what he wants without apology.

As if my love life isn’t dramatic enough, Dean Bennett walks into my life again thinking he’s going to win me back with his charm and charisma. He might come in a different package, but under that expensive suit he’s still the same cocky, arrogant, pompous prick who only cares about numero uno.

I’m not that naïve young girl anymore so I have to ignore the fact that the way he looks at me practically sets my panties on fire.

Everyone deserves a second chance to right a wrong. The problem? He’s not just an ex-boyfriend…

He’s my ex-husband.

Author: Noelle Adams
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 29, 2018

Blurb
On a Wednesday afternoon, I ask Trevor Bentley to marry me. He might be the most arrogant, obnoxious man I know, but I need him to be my husband for a year. There are reasons.

He’s not going to be a real husband. Just part-time. Yes, I have to live with him. And, okay, I also have to share his bed. And, sure, he’s the sexiest and most exciting thing to ever happen to my controlled, organized life.

But still… It’s only a part-time marriage. I’m not going to give him my heart. I know what I’m doing, and I’m too smart to fall for my husband.

I hope.

Excerpt

I’m feeling warm and relaxed when I finally get out of the bathtub. I usually don’t walk around the apartment unless I’m covered up, but since Trevor isn’t here I just wrap a towel around me. My hair is piled up messily on my head, and I’m carrying my bath salts and soap.

I open the bathroom door and nearly run smack into Trevor.

I give a little squeal and immediately look to make sure my towel is in place. “I didn’t know you were home.”

“I just got back.”

“I was in the bath.”

“I know that.” He’s looking very sexy in that end-of-the-day way he has. Five-o’clock shadow. Slightly loosened tie and collar. Half-lowered eyelids.

God, the man is hot.

“I could smell you as soon as I walked in the door,” he adds, the slightly rough words doing nothing for my flustered state of mind.

“You smelled me?” I’m thinking all kinds of things at the moment, and none of them are suitable to share with the man in front of me.

He reaches over, and I swallow over a quick intake of breath. I think he’s going to touch me. I want him to touch me.

He touches my bath salts instead. “This stuff you put in your bath. I smelled it as soon as I walked in, so I knew you were in the bath.”

“Oh.”

It’s perfectly logical. And kind of a disappointment.

His hand moves from the bath salts, and his fingertips slowly trail up my towel to the bare skin at my collarbone. It’s barely a touch, but it makes my skin flush and a pulsing begin between my legs.

“What did you think?” he asks, his voice a little thicker than normal.

“What did I think about what?” I have no idea what he’s talking about. My brain isn’t exactly functioning at the moment.

“What did you think I smelled?”

“I… I didn’t know.”

“I see.”

It feels like he sees.

It feels like he sees all of me.

I’m staring at his plum-colored tie because it’s safer than meeting his eyes right now. I don’t want him to know how I’m feeling, how his touch, his presence is affecting me.

“Melissa?”

“What?”

“Are you planning to move out of the doorway? I need to use the bathroom.” And that’s like a load of bricks on my breathlessness. I’m able to meet his gaze now with a cool expression as I step out of the doorway.

I’m on my way out of the room when he says, “We can return to this particular conversation a little later in bed if you want.”

Damn it.

The asshole knows exactly what I was feeling just now.

Fortunately I’m not feeling it anymore.

“I don’t think so.”

“You sure?”

I turn my head and see him smirking at me, as if he thinks he’s already won.

He hasn’t won.

“Yes, I’m sure. The problem is that any kind of conversation with you involves your infuriating personality, and that just doesn’t work for me.”

“I think it does.”

“You think wrong. And I thought you had to go to the bathroom.”

“I do. We’ll resume this conversation at a later date.”

Book Review: ‘Blessedly Bound’ by Lucretia Stanhope

Title: Blessedly Bound: An Elemental Witch Trails Novel Book One

Published: 13th February 2017

Author: Lucretia Stanhope

Twitter: @dianas58

Amazon page: www.amazon.com/Lucretia-Stanhope/e/B01NGTHHUS

Synopsis:

Dark Secrets. Bound Magic. A determined witch.

Elemental witch, Gwen Hensley, wants answers. Why was her grandmother burned alive? Was it because she was witch? Did it have something to do the with the dark secrets of the family that orphaned her? Those answers won’t come easy and time is ticking.

Behind the smiling faces of the locals lies a killer whose sights are set on her. Is it one of the friendly shopkeepers? The mysterious neighbor she’s drawn to? Or is someone closer to her behind the gruesome murder? None appear capable of such evil. With the target on her, she can’t be wrong. How will she decide who she can trust?

Review:

Goes down as another off my 2018 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book about witches. A family line that seems to have a curse surrounding it, dark magic soon starts closing in.

Gwen finds herself being called back to the home she never knew by dark news of her grandmother being killed. Burned at the stake so to speak. A psycho on the loose some would say but perhaps a witch-hunt is on the cards. Danger follows as she tries to make sense of what has happened and what it means for her.

She might feel alone at times with no family but she isn’t truly as she always has her familiar Lewis – well at the start anyway. He is meant to be her guide and teacher in all things magical. Right from the start though you get the feeling that he is holding something back. He likes to make her think she is a weak witch. Something she has never wanted to question until coming to live at her grandmother’s home. With moving in she starts a friendship with her neighbour Sebastian, one she can feel has magic but isn’t completely sure what he is. A familiar too perhaps, just not her grandmothers even though they were close friends. It seems that he wants to guide her and feels a strong connection – like her – from the moment they met. There is just something about the other that draws them in close. Well it might start out that way but he has a dark secret that once told is likely to cause tension between them. Something Lewis is happy about. He might have made it clear that he and Gwen couldn’t be together but that doesn’t change their feelings. Though to be fair the longer you get in the book the more you are unsure about his true feelings for her. He might think he is doing the right thing to keep her safe from a possible dark future at the hands of someone powerful but his methods are a bit off. Sebastian is all too aware of what he is up to and so tries to help wherever he can.

The trouble of past visions and future fates is what triggers Sebastian and Lewis to come together to help train Gwen better. A quick study she may be and not one to shy away from trouble. Which is where she’s headed as she tries to figure out who really killed her grandmother. The cops might say the person is caught but she knows something’s not right. It seems for her to figure out the present she needs to look into the past but in doing so it might put her in more danger. A killer after witches it seems so she may need to learn faster if she is to be able to fight back and win. She can’t just rely on others, as they may not get there in time. Fight or flight kicks in and when the time comes to get revenge who is the one going to be on top.

Interesting mix of magic, familiars who can shift to and from their animal forms and a vampire twist, all mixed in with a murder mystery to figure out. That being said I did kind of call it as to who the killer was but that’s just the start of the adventure of Gwen being in this new town. Seems other magical beings might be about to get called into play. Romance on the cards but is it only due to a blood spell for protection. Who is meant to be and what are everyone’s true motives? Something I’m sure will be explored in the books to come.

Book Review: ‘The Ghostwriters’ by Mickey J. Corrigan

Title: The Ghostwriters

Published: 2nd September 2016

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Author: Mickey J. Corrigan

Goodreads: www.goodreads.com/author/show/5828647.Mickey_J_Corrigan

Synopsis:

She’s funny, cynical, and kinda crazy, but she knows how to tell a story.

A struggling writer living in Manhattan, Jacy McMasters is the first to admit she’s a terrific liar and a screw-up. Then the ghost of the famous novelist JD Balinger asks her to “channel” a follow-up to his classic coming of age book, The Watcher in the Sky. Along with her new boyfriend, a bear of a man who has no patience for mind games, the ghost in Jacy’s head forces her to confront a lifetime of secrets—dark secrets. Secrets she’s been keeping from herself.

Review:

So our girl Jacy has kind of hit rock bottom in a drunken wasteland of despair. While on another drunken night out she gets a helping hand by a friendly older guy called JD. It seems he has a proposition for her. A way to get her out of the rut she has found herself in and try to make something of her life. He wants her to help him write the sequel to his first worldwide hit. He just so happens to be the author of her all time favourite book. She is to ghostwrite the book for JD, as he can’t do it himself. You see well, he’s dead, so is contacting her through his spirit self. Seems her drunken stupor opened a way for her to connect with those on the other side. Now Jacy is either going to have to believe the ghost in front of her or she’s got to think of herself as crazy and having a mental break. It wouldn’t be the first time but this feels different and she really does want help. Wanting it and getting it are two different things and at the beginning it doesn’t take long before she falls back on old habits. Namely getting drunk and letting her ex Austin use her for only one thing. Talk about being an utter dick! You are glad when she sees the light but not everything is rosy for her.

To create the story she needs to fully embrace JD and let him write through her. They might clash on lots of things but he is trying to get her to see that she does have something to say. She has a lot of material to work with – the crazy antics of her family being top of the list. He just needs her to embrace it to see it.

Not quite over her drunken ways though she ends up meeting a nice guy while out, Firth. I say when out but she remembers nothing of the night, just the morning after at his place. He seems to think he knows her somehow and whenever they meet again suggests that he wants her to open up like she did before. He doesn’t want games, he wants the real thing and he thinks that might be her. Only problem is she holds too much back for fear the pain will take over. Everyone has always tried to control her so she pushes back and rebels – drinking and sleeping around being the main players. But with Firth it’s different. He’s nice and that’s something she isn’t used to. He understands she is writing a book with someone but doesn’t know the whole ghost part. Trust me its not going to go down well when she starts talking about it. I liked that when he had a cat that needed help he thought of her, as every writer should have a cat by their side – or you know on their laps, over their arms so they can’t write – when typing away at a computer. The story is coming along but her life seems to take a turn. Family troubles are key but what are they really? A health spa retreat to help or could it hinder when you need some alone time? Can she find her way back to who she was or try to be a better version of herself? The self those close to her saw in her potential.

Loved the back and forth antics between JD and Jacy. They seemed to click in a weird way, which was fun. The twist can be seen fairly soon but its still interesting to see how everything comes full circle. Connection with Firth was real and only when she let him in did she get what she truly wanted. Does grip you quite quickly with the style of writing and story itself. Once I started I couldn’t seem to put it down so it’s well worth a look. A ghost writer helping her ghostwrite a masterpiece to help her move on. Helps others too.
