If you’re a guy like me, and you find yourself having banged your sexy new boss–the school principal–in the back of your Jeep one drunken night, here’s a few takeaways based on my experience…

Lesson One: Always get her FULL name.

Lesson Two: Consider asking what she does for a living.

Lesson Three: Find out why she’s moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.

Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing.

Lesson Five: If you ignore Lesson Four, apologize instead of flirt when you’re sent to the principal’s office.

Lesson Six: NEVER sleep with her again.

Lesson Seven: Pay attention to this one–it’s the most important of them all.

Don’t fall for your one-night stand.

Class dismissed.

Goes down as another off my 2019 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book published this year. Welcome to tranquil town of Lake Starlight where the Baileys are a well loved family. What’s more loved though is the towns gossip blog site Buzz Wheel. Read it fast though because it’s only up until midnight. Note to self: if you want to do something a bit impulsive – like hooking up with a stranger in a jeep – make sure no-one is around to capture the story or you might make a headline. Something that Austin and Holly are wishing they had done.

Austin is kind of seen as a bit of a saint in Lake Starlight. After his parents died he came back to help raise his brothers and sisters. His sister Savannah, only a couple years younger, would take care of the family business and he would look after the family. His main goal was to see all of them graduate school and go off to college. The last two, twins Phoenix and Sedona, are coming up to graduation and with this his own dreams are coming back into focus. He is the school coach but dreams bigger to be a college coach. His plan is to leave to pursue his own dream career now everyone has graduated. The only problem is that his dream will take him away from Lake Starlight. Is it time for him to chase a new dream though?

Holly has her own reasons for coming to this quiet little town and that’s due to who lives a few towns over – her father. Well father would imply that he was a part of her life but at this point he is simply part of her DNA. She wants to meet him but are her hopes a little too high for what she might get back in return? To do this she managed to get a job at Lake Starlight as the new school Principal until the end of the term. All would be great if she didn’t get a very embarrassing introduction to the schools pupils courtesy of the school coach wanting to get a laugh out of them. What makes matters worse is that he isn’t a stranger but in fact her one-night stand from a few days before. Shocked faces from both it seems when he sees her walk towards the front of the stage. I think they are both running through the last time they saw each other – namely the back seat of his jeep. Heated passion about hit the breaks?

Breaks are pushed down hard, as both know that the other doesn’t plan on sticking around for long – three months and then both will be gone. Holly might be clear that she doesn’t want anything to happen between them because of this but you can’t hide away from the chemistry that they feel. The town carnival is where things heat up. Pie in the face is ok if you promise to let to other clean you up afterwards. But a ride on a fairest wheel is the perfect way to build tension with every time you are out of sight from prying eyes. You can feel the heat rising between them with each rotation getting closer to kissing. They know what it feels like too with memories of the jeep – thought they were going to combust! Seems they think that if they go in with their eyes open and just keep things fun and secret – not wanting to get back on Buzz Wheel again – that they will be ok when its over in three months. Yeah good luck with that when feelings start creeping in!

Holly’s mum Karen was a bit of a whirlwind. Knew she’d be fun right from the get go. Loved Grandma Dori too and found she always had a few good words of wisdom – along with a handy golf cart – at just the right time. So the Bailey clan have arrived and I feel are going to be an interesting bunch to follow. Anyone else going to be steaming up jeep windows or are they just going to leave that to Austin and Holly. Well they are a very passionate, fiery couple.

Fun, interesting characters throughout that draw you in quickly. The town has a great vibe to it to. Makes you want to visit it.

5 out of 5 stars

I received this ARC from the authors via InkSlinger PR for my honest review.
