Synopsis:

This was it. The moment Heaven and Hell would clash. But which unearthly being would win, the fallen angel or Hell’s hounds?

Overtaken by fear, I close my eyes.

Kayson is a Fallen Angel who has spent decades running from the Hell Hounds while searching for something that no one else believes can be so, not even God. Kayson is determined to find a Blood Child. But when a hound finds Kayson first, he is sure his end has come.

Falon, Alpha of the Hell Hounds, destroyer of the blood children, and devoted believer in his master’s plan, is bound and determined to drag Kayson back to Hell with him.

Sabrina is a Vampire, a half-breed created from one of Lucifer’s original blood children. After years of hiding, Sabrina’s fate changes when she finds Kayson barely alive. Against her instincts, Sabrina saves him. Now she and Kayson are both marked by the Hell Hounds.

Emma is an ordinary human, whose only problem is making ends meet, and getting over the hurt caused by her untrustworthy brother. Her everyday problems become supernatural ones when she finds Kayson and Sabrina hiding in her parent’s backyard shed.

Kayson, Sabrina and Emma are unlikely allies, thrown together by chance to fight against the most powerful creatures of the underworld in order to follow their world-changing quest. But will the broken faith of one break the faith of all?

Review:

What do you get if you throw together a vampire, angels, hellhounds and some strong willed humans? One hell of a fun ride, that’s what. So hold on tight for a fun read with this intriguing group of supernaturals that like to mix things up. So with this book you actually get to be in four different peoples head throughout (Kayson, Sabrina, Emma and Falon’s) so if you don’t like jumping back and forth between many characters then this might not be for you. Any more characters jumping in though would disjoint the story too much. It works with what it has so let’s hope the rest of the series stays with the pattern and doesn’t introduce any others.

Well this story starts as it means to go on with a battle between heaven and hell. There are those that are meant to be enemies because of what they are, not how they act. It’s due to one angel’s new outlook on the lives of vampires that were turned by second-generation vampires, and not directly from the firsts blood, though that sets the tone for the whole book. Kayson’s story starts with a fight to the death, its either going to be him or a hellhound. Ends up being a close call but the fallen angel is one up at this point. Danger is coming faster and harder as a result now though, as before he killed the hellhound he let out the hell call to draw all others to him due to a fallen angel being found. They are coming make no mistake so his only hope is to trust the help of the one person who should be his enemy, a vampire Sabrina.

Sabrina has been hiding from the world for decades. Keeping to the shadows, only surviving off the blood of animals. Not that she has always done so. Her master turned her against her will and didn’t inform her that there was another way. He was bound by the call of the firsts blood but she soon realised she wasn’t. She could run and hide in the shadows to keep others, and herself, safe. The only good thing her master ever did for her was worn her about the hellhounds. Saying that they would be coming for their kind and to be caught by one would be a fate worse than death. So she does what any clever vampire would do when they smell one, starts running in the other direction. Even though this one is dead she is taking no chances. While running though she is hit with another scent, one much more appealing than the first, and it just so happens to belong to Kayson. Broken and bleeding he begs her to help him, even though she longs to run to keep herself safe she finds herself unable to just walk away. Its clear he is in a bad way and once he confirms that more hellhounds will be coming she knows she needs to find somewhere safe to keep him hidden so he can recover. Getting him there is not the easiest thing to do though when she isn’t as strong as a ‘normal’ vampire due to living off animal blood. One drop given freely from Kayson though is all it takes to give her the boost needed to get them somewhere secure. Once there she can see the full extent of his injuries, which are very bad. She can help to a point but knows that he really needs medical help, something they can’t get. Well not until the next day anyway when an unsuspecting human, training to be a nurse as it happens, comes to investigate the shed they are in.

Emma finds herself thrown into a world of fantasy when she goes over to her parents’ house to water their plants. Needing something from the shed she finds the lock damaged, her first thought is that it’s her good for nothing brother back to cause more heartache. What she finds though is a pissed off vampire who she fears would like nothing more than to drain her dry and a badly wounded fallen angel on the bed. Her mind can’t really comprehend what she is seeing but soon it becomes too late to be ignorant of what is in front of her when the hellhounds start to come knocking.

Falon is the alpha hellhound and the only one who would report directly to Lucifer himself. He and his pack have come to the place where the hell call came from and are not impressed to see one of their own was killed. He can smell in the air a fallen angel is close, one he feels he might know, and that the angel had help to escape. They soon use their charm to worm their way into the small suburb that is going to be the bases for the battle to come.

You can see a connection between Kayson and Sabrina forming quite quickly but feel that Kayson is holding back. He opens up to her to a point and then backs off. Which is infuriating to Sabrina after she tells him all about her past. You then feel her pain when she finds out that he told Emma things before her, even though she asked first. Emma and her friends soon get thrown into the middle of a battle that could see a very bad outcome. Two would be enemies now turned friends, hopefully more, and a band of humans’ odds of winning against the hellhounds aren’t looking good. But hopefully a little help from above is not too far away. The key players in this battle going forward are Kayson and Sabrina. They need to stay together no matter what if the outcome is going to come out on top.

I feel this book is more about setting the scene for what’s to come. You get to go through different characters minds throughout key parts of the book to give a wider view of the part they will play. You do get a bit of a badass battle near the end but get the feeling it’s just the start of what’s to come. Sometimes when your faith is tested the most you start to see things in a different light. A way some would at first stay away from could end up being the best route to take in the long run. Hold onto your hats because the war has only just began.

~DEEP IN THE HOLLOW~

Let me share some wisdom with you. There is evil in this world we cannot see, not because it is hidden from us, but because our minds refuse to accept its existence. But once we are able to get past what everyone says should not be, it becomes our responsibility to stop the evil we now see.

This insight wasn’t given to me until a year after I lost the most important person in my life: Bryce Rowan. Now, after another death at the same spot where he died—the overlook, where the mysterious lights dance amongst the trees—I begin to wonder if they were accidents after all.

Lucky for me, I’m not the only curious one in town. Cooper, a ghost hunter (aka chaser), and his sister Jada have moved to town and are starting to ask questions.

But the more we find out about this town and the people who live here, people who I have known my whole life, the more I begin to think there are those who would rather keep the evil secret, even if it means we will never be safe, and that more will die.

RAGING STORM Book #2

After Kayson fell from heaven, his
life got complicated. His greatest enemies, the hell hounds, thrived on Earth and hunted not only the fallen but the blood children created by their Master. After being chased and confronted by one of those very creatures, Kayson’s life becomes even more complicated. He never expected to be rescued by a vampire named Sabrina. He also never expected to become her protector after she falls prey to a hell hound’s deadly bite.

Falon, head of the hell hounds, has been desperately trying to hunt down Kayson and Sabrina but with the rain steadily falling—due to interference by the lower-realm Angels, also known as the assemblies—Falon grows irritated. His only option is to threaten those that may know where the fallen can be found.

With the threat of the hounds finding Kayson and the other fallen, Kayson is running out of time. Stille, once a respected Warrior in the assemblies, is pushing Kayson to leave an unconscious Sabrina behind. After all Sabrina has done for him, Kayson refuses to abandon her. But will his decision leave his friends vulnerable to attack?

Sabrina is conscious enough to sense the struggles that Kayson is facing. If he knew the torture she’s been going through, she knows he would suffer even more. Sabrina silently fights the darkness that is seeping into her dreams, while struggling to stay strong for Kayson. But when the pain becomes too much, Sabrina has to make a choice that may cost not only her life, but the lives of others as well.

“So this was another really fabulous addition to the series. … A strength of the first book that continues into this book is that the characters are very well drawn. Each character has distinct and different personality traits, and they hold to those traits very consistently.”

DARKEST REACHES Book #3

Kayson and the other fallen angels have risked their lives to keep Sabrina safe as she recovered from a Hell hound’s bite. Just when she began to improve, Hell was unleashed as the hounds attacked, and kidnapped Sabrina.

Now, only days after the fight between the fallen and the hounds, Kayson is determined to find Sabrina and bring her back from Hell. The only thing standing in his way is a dangerous fallen angel named Iraja. Iraja has the means to find Sabrina,
but he doesn’t do favors without a price.

Sabrina is now facing the nightmare she’s been running from since being turned into a vampire a century ago: her eternal condemnation to Hell. Knowing her only chance of survival may rest by playing nice and turning Hell hound Falon against Lucifer, Sabrina gives into the bitter darkness and now has to fight to remember the good soul she truly is. But when she discovers the role her and the innocent human Emma are forced to play, will her fear get the better of her, and will she be lost forever?

In the third installment of the Spiritual Discord series, the will to survive is tested, worst fears become a reality, and for one, betrayal becomes the only option.
