Synopsis:

Hanna Scott … she’s been my obsession since I was seventeen. She’s the object of every dirty thought I’ve ever had. I’m consumed. I lust over her … albeit from afar. She has no idea how I feel. And my secret can never come out, because there’s one major hurdle standing in our way … she’s my best friend’s little sister. When she offers to stand in as my temporary secretary, I’m torn. Will I be able to risk the temptation? Or will I succumb and lose everything that I hold dear?

Review:

Goes down as another off my 2017 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book you can finish in a day. Temptation is closer than ever for Harrison and Hanna and its not long before the tension snaps and passion explodes.

So Harrison has had a bit of an obsession with Hanna for years. She temps him like none other and the things they get up to in his head are starting to drive him crazy with need. Just a little problem with going after the woman you really want and that’s if they happen to be your best friends little sister. The more the fantasies grow the less power he feels he has over himself to make sure he keeps his distance. Well other than to be a friend that’s known her for years that is. With her being away at college it gave him space but that is all about to change when his best friends wife gets involved. She always notices more than you think so watch out. Seems Harrison is in need of a new receptionist and until he hires a new one Michelle thinks it would be a great idea for him to let Hanna help out – one idea that Hanna completely agrees on.

Seems while he was trying to not be obvious with his obsession of Hanna he didn’t see she was just as into him. He might not do relationships but if a bit of fun is all she is going to get then she’s going to go for it. Close quarter’s at the office and you can see Harrison’s resolve fading by the minute but its not till they go away on a business trip that things come to a head. If she thought he was good in her dreams then they hold nothing compared to the real thing (same goes for his dreams really). After making a bit of a fool of herself at first she thinks he really doesn’t want her but when she exits the shower damp in nothing but a towel you can literally feel the heat coming off him. It’s almost like he’s starving and she’s his last meal. One she’s very happy to be when he starts to touch her. A passionate turn to a business trip but with Harrison’s fears of what to tell Ethan looming it soon becomes a secret affair. The longer they wait the worse it will be. Doesn’t mean they can’t have a bit of fun along the way when they get back to the office though. Every naughty thought he’s ever had of her is slowly coming true and all he can think about is how much better reality really is. When things come to ahead though he’s a bit shell-shocked. It’s like he didn’t believe in his own self worth to have a meaningful relationship so never tried before. He’s slowly learning with Hanna, though really I think he was just waiting for her, his perfect match.

Loved Michelle’s character, such a feisty woman who certainty knows how to put her man (and others) in their place. You can see Ethan just wants to look out for his sister but still you just wanted to smack him upside the head when he tried to mess things up. Its not till his wife makes him see sense that he sees things a bit clearer. Great chemistry between all characters and a fun read. Harrison’s the boss in every way when it comes to Hanna’s passion and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Excerpt

“Good morning, Mr Williams.”

Mr Williams? She’s never called me that before. It’s always been Harry or Giant. That’s her comeback for me calling her Shrimp. She’s four-foot-seven, so my six-foot-three frame, towers over hers.

Spinning around, I almost swallow my tongue when I find her standing in the doorway to my office. She’s wearing a high-waisted tight fitting skirt that stops just above her knees. It hugs her body perfectly. I can see a hint of white lace protruding from underneath her white silk blouse. She looks like an angel. A sinfully, hot as hell angel. The thin red belt around her tiny waist matches her sexy red heels. She’s sex on legs, a walking fucking wet dream.

I swear I’m holding my breath as my eyes drink her in. Her long blonde hair is pulled into a bun at the nape of her neck, and the red rimmed glasses she’s wearing not only frame her beautiful blue eyes perfectly, they turn me the hell on. She has this naughty librarian thing going on and it instantly has my mind going into overdrive. I picture her releasing her long blonde locks from where they’re being held captive, and imagine her shaking her head from side to side as her hair comes loose and cascades down her lean back. I shake my head and suppress a growl as I try to bring my mind out of the gutter and back into reality. What in the hell is wrong with me? Like always, she’s playing the starring role in one of my many fantasies. This shit has to stop.

When my eyes finally meet hers, I find her smiling. Did she just witness me checking her out? Thank fuck she can’t read minds. I’d be in deep shit if she could. Having her here is going to be harder than I thought.

Clearing my throat, I tug at the tie around my neck as I take a step closer. I’m suddenly feeling claustrophobic. “You don’t need to call me, Mr Williams, Han.”

“What did your other Secretaries call you?”

“Mr Williams,” I chuckle.

She looks up at me from beneath her glasses and I’m pretty sure my heart just skipped a beat. I could drown in those damn eyes of hers. “Well, Mr Williams it is then.”

“I’d feel stupid hearing you call me that.”

“Only in the office,” she replies with a smile. “Outside of here, you’ll still be Giant, my brother’s pesky friend, or just plain old Harry.”

“Your brother’s pesky friend, hey?” I say, pulling her into a headlock.

“Yes,” she laughs.

“Take that back, Shrimp.”

“Okay. Only mildly pesky … and only on occasions.”

We’re both laughing when I release her. She’s like no other woman I know. Things are so easy around her, just like breathing.

“So now we’ve got that established, where do you want me to start?” I smile when she eagerly rubs her hands together. I like her enthusiasm.

“Come, your desk is out here.” The thought of moving her desk into my office, flashes through my mind. That would be asking for trouble; trouble I don’t need.

Placing my hand on the small of her back, I lead her out to reception. Once she’s seated, I get her to log onto the computer. “I have a conference this afternoon, I’m going to need you to make sure all the files are in order. I’ll also need you to print out copies of my presentation, for them to follow.”

“That sounds like something I could do.”

“Click on the Jensen merger file,” I say, leaning forward and pointing to it on the screen. I inhale a large breath when her fruity, yet flowery, smell invades my senses.

“Did you just sniff me?”

“What? No.” Standing to full height, I clear my throat. “Why would I sniff you?” I deadpan. Jesus. I’m starting to look like some kind of sniffing freak. In my defence, she shouldn’t smell so good. I need to get my shit together if I’m going to come out the other end of this unscathed.

“Okay. No need to get so defensive. I thought I heard you sniff.”

“Nope. No sniffing. I definitely didn’t sniff you.” I’m such a damn liar. I so sniffed her.

“Okay. You didn’t sniff me,” she says, shrugging her shoulders. “Relax. Geez. It’s no big deal.”

“I’ll email you a list of jobs that need doing this morning. After lunch, you’ll need to set up the boardroom for my presentation.”

With that, I turn and head back into my office. I need distance.

It’s safer.

Book Review: ‘Bastard’ by J L Perry

Synopsis:

**FULL LENGTH STANDALONE READ**

**You can watch the book trailer for Bastard on my Amazon Author’s page, by clicking on my Author’s name at the top of the page**

**Warning this book contains coarse language and sexual content and therefore is recommended for persons over the age of 18**

My name is Carter Reynolds. I was born a bastard and I’ll die a bastard. I learnt it at a young age, and nothing and nobody can change that. I’m on a one-way path of destruction, and God help anyone who gets in my way. I hate my life. Actually, I hate pretty much everything.

That’s until I meet the kid next door. Indi-freakin’-ana. My dislike for her is instant. From the moment I lay eyes on her, she ignites something within me. She makes me feel things I thought I was incapable of feeling. I don’t like it, not one bit. When she looks at me with her big, beautiful, haunting green eyes, it’s like she can see into the depths of my soul. It freaks me the hell out. She’s like sunshine and rainbows in my world of gloom and doom. I hate sunshine and rainbows.

•••

I’m Indiana Montgomery. My friends call me Indi. Despite losing my mum at the age of six, I have a wonderful life and great friends. My dad more than makes up for the fact that I only have one parent. I’m his little girl, the centre of his world. I adore him.

When Carter Reynolds moves in next door, my life takes a turn for the worse. He’s gorgeous, sinfully hot, but that’s where my compliments end. He seems hell-bent on making my life miserable. He acts tough, but when I look into his eyes I don’t see it. I see hurt and pain. To me, he seems lost.

I should hate him for the way he treats me, but surprisingly I don’t. If anything, I feel sorry for him. I want to help him find peace. Help him find the light that I know is buried somewhere within his darkness, but he won’t have a bar of it.

He’s warned me time and time again to stay away, but I can’t. I’m drawn to him for some reason. He’s always referring to himself as a bastard. That may be true, but to me, he’s more like a beautifully, misunderstood bastard. Whether he likes it or not, I refuse to give up on him.

Review:

I loved this story right from the start. It’s a book of two parts. Part one definitely lives up to its title for Carter but that’s more to do with an event that happened in his childhood. Part two he has grown up a lot in the years he’s spent away. Shame he can’t keep running from his mistakes as it could be his last chance to right them. Carter and Indiana both go through so much that you are just dying for them to get their happy ending.

The story starts with Carter who states that he was born a bastard, is a bastard and he will die a bastard. It can all be pin pointed to the moment that his mother took him to see his grandfather for the first time at the age of five. Lets just say it doesn’t go well and it’s the first time he hears the word bastard. Its not until he reads what it means that it changes him. From that point on he turns into a darker version of himself who treats everyone like trash, except for his mother, as that’s how he thinks they are going to treat him. Hurt others before they can hurt you and keep your walls up seem to be his mottos. Intriguing that the more he does this when he meets Indiana the more she can see straight through him. Their first introduction doesn’t go well, though that has a lot to do with the situation. His mother has married a complete tool who makes it very clear Carter is the unwanted baggage that comes with her. From the moment they move into his house Carter is counting down the days until he is eighteen so he can move out. Nothing will make him stay, even the temptress that’s got under his skin who lives next door. The only problem with this is that the more time they spend together the more he sees her as a kindred spirit who seems to understand him better than himself.

Indiana doesn’t get off to a great start with Carter. She pretty much thinks of him as an arsehole she’d liked to stay away from. Seems they keep bumping into each other though, well they are neighbours and going to the same school now. His mum then has the great idea that he should drive her to school, something she doesn’t have much of a say in when Carter has his way. Their love/hate relationship starts from this point onwards. Carter is constantly trying to put up barriers between him and others to prevent them from knowing the real him – even though at times he doesn’t even know who that is. No matter how hard she tries to not let him get to her he does anyway. She has a way of getting him to let his guard down and when he does she can’t help but fall for him. No matter what he says he can’t stay away and it just takes one kiss for both to see what might be. But he doesn’t do relationships and doesn’t want to have a reason to stick around so plans to stay away no matter what she asks of him. Umm yeah that doesn’t work out too well because she ends up giving him something special anyway but even her virginity can’t make him stay.

Skip forward five years and circumstances out of his control bring him home. Seems there was heartbreak on both sides but anger full front on hers when they are face to face again. Carter’s hands just weren’t quick enough, though really he should have seen it coming. Indiana it seems might have moved on and if Carter waits too long to right his wrong he will lose her forever.

Hot and heavy when they were younger but off the charts passion now they are older. Coming back together has its benefits but there’s always something around the corner that could cause trouble. I loved Indiana’s friend, she came up with some interesting ways for Indiana to try and get a reaction out of Carter when they were younger. Getting a guy to try and climb through her bedroom window being one of them – lets just say Carter is none too pleased and once the guy has been scared off Indiana and him have a very intense moment. Loved her dog Lassie, or as Carter liked to call him Larry, as he was what kept bringing them a bit more of a connection. Indiana’s dad was a good character aswell as he brought out a better side to Carter. He was the father he never had and always wanted. Great bit of writing and I couldn’t put it down. Will definitely have to check out what else the author has written.

My name is Jaxson Albright. To my friends I’m known as Jax. I’m the disgraced son of well-known Politician, Malcom Albright. You could say I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I was supposed to follow in my father’s footsteps and move into politics. My whole childhood was spent being groomed for this role, but that wasn’t what I wanted. I had other plans.

To my family’s disgust, I’m inked, I’m pierced and I own and run a tattoo parlour, in the hip suburb of Newtown. I fit in here. I can be the man I was destined to be, the man my family are ashamed of. The son they regret having.

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my saviour, Candice. My pink-haired angel. We grew up in the same circle, but like me, she’s an outcast. She refused to conform to society’s ways. She’s the only one who stuck by me and not only encouraged, but supported my dream.

I love her. No, correction—I’m in love with her. I have been for as long as I can remember. She has no idea how I feel. It’s a battle I struggle with daily. I’ve kept my secret all these years because I couldn’t risk losing her. That’s a chance I’m not prepared to take, because she’s my best friend; my only real family.

I’ve spent the last few years moving from one hot chick to the next, trying to mask these feeling I have. But it doesn’t help—I can’t get her out of my head. She still owns my damn heart.

How do you get over the girl you know you can never have? And how do you live without the one person on this earth who is made for you?

Trailer
Excerpt

Leaning forward, so my face is only inches from hers, I say, “I can see that.” Her pupils dilate and I hear her breath hitch. I immediately know my effect on her hasn’t diminished either. It takes everything in me not to pull her into my arms and squeeze the fucking life out of her. Why did I leave it so long to see her? Just being near her again, makes me feel alive. “It’s good to see you again, Indi.”

“Well, the feeling’s not mutual,” she says. She’s lying, I can tell. Her body language is saying the complete opposite to her words. She’s still a stubborn arse I see. My eyes leave hers, gazing down at her lips. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dreamt of those lips over the past five years. Too many to count. I want to kiss her so bad my fucking chest aches. I let my eyes drop a little lower. First I see is the necklace I bought her. I can’t believe she’s still wearing it. It has me smiling like a damn fool. You have no idea what seeing that means to me.

I watch her chest rise and fall as her breathing quickens. She can deny it all she wants, but she’s affected by me. “My eyes are up here, buddy,” she spits. I want to laugh at her comment. I love her smart mouth. I’m glad this part of our relationship hasn’t changed.

Underneath the material of her white top, I can see a hint of her white lace bra covering the swell of her breast. It gives me an idea. I can’t help myself. I lift the sponge in my hand until it’s hovering over her tits. I hear her gasp when she realises what I’m about to do. I clench my fist tight, the water drips out. It soaks into the fabric of her top, making it transparent. Her nipples harden and so does my cock. Christ. I haven’t even touched her yet, and I swear I could break diamonds with this fucker.

Peeling my gaze from her spectacular rack, I make eye contact with her again. I’m feeling quite pleased with myself, but that feeling doesn’t last long. The anger I see in her eyes is not what I’m expecting. When did she lose her sense of humour? I guess I should’ve known from past experience, when it comes to her, I’m playing with fire. Especially since she has five years of pent up anger inside her, towards me.

This is one time I’m not anticipating her next move. So when it comes, I’m totally taken by surprise. She raises her right leg slightly, and then ‘BOOM’. She knees me fair smack in the nuts. Hard. Jesus fucking Christ.

All the air gushes from my lungs as pain radiates through my whole body. My dick goes instantly limp. Fuck, I think she just killed it. I’m pretty sure my boys are now lodged somewhere in my throat.

A feral, high pitched sound escapes me as I fall to my knees in agony. “Stay the fuck away from me arsehole,” she spits, as she turns and runs inside.

Somebody call an ambulance, I think I’m gonna die.
