Book Review: ‘Wanted by the Alpha’ by Laxmi Hariharan

Title: Wanted by the Alpha (Knotted Omega Book 0.5)

Published: 7th August 2019

Publisher: 13 Suns

Author: Laxmi Hariharan

Blurb:

She belongs to me…

Just a glimpse and I know she was MINE.
She isn’t like any other omega I’ve met,
I hadn’t anticipated this need for her.
I should have stayed away…
Yet, I can’t leave without her.
There’s a twisted, yearning, full of fear and anger inside me. For her…
No one can stop me, from breaking her
From making her mine…
She belongs to me…

This is the 15,000-word prequel to the Knotted Omega Series.

Review:

This short prequel is more about setting the players in motion for the main story to begin.

Starts as it means to go on with one hell of a sex dream. Let’s see if Zeus can make it a reality by finding his dream Omega. Seems he’s not the only one dreaming of the other, Lucy is just as linked in her dreams with him. Connected even before they met.

Zeus is an Alpha with a purpose, to kill his bastard of a father. Once done he will then become the General of London. Not pleased with just one title though as he wants to unite Scotland with England. Just has to go through a few people to do it.

Lucy and her sister are in a bit of a bind. Seems to barter a truce they are the terms granted. They know they are Omegas but want to choose who they want, not to be sold off to the highest bidder their father can get for them. Stories of an Alpha in Scotland giving Omegas the choice to which Alpha they bed when the heat cycle strikes leads to a plan of escape.

Can these twos journeys get them to cross paths to what – or rather who – they really want? With tensions running high from all sides and dangers following it’s anyone’s guess to how their stories will play out.

Interesting introduction to the characters but feel it could have been a little longer to get inside their heads a bit more – though this will come with the rest of the series. This is more about setting the scene and putting the players into their places for the journey to continue. Who to trust will be key to getting people to where they need to go.

As Maya searches for herself, she uncovers secrets about her past that will change her forever. Can she accept herself and her new place in this world, while still falling in love with the one man she’s fated to be with?

Review:

Goes down as another off my 2017 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book about shifters. Interesting world you are thrown into and it is intriguing to see where it goes from here.

It’s the year 2036 and our story starts in Powai Hills on the outskirts of Bombay where Maya and her family stay in the shadows. They have to stay hidden due to being part of a pack of human-wolf shifters; danger is ever present until they can find a way to coexist between the full humans somehow. Maya and her friend Luke have been close ever since she can remember but it is only since he started to be able to shift that she has felt a pull towards him. They both feel it and know what it means for their future but at the same time Maya knows something is wrong. She’s different and has felt a disconnection with the pack for some time. It’s not until she confronts her mother, the alpha of the pack, that she gets the truth. Well to a point that is. She tells her that she found Maya lost in the forest as a child and saved her. Maya now needs to find out where she came from to figure out who she really is. To do this she must leave the closeness of the only family she has ever known and the boy who she knows is her future, her mate. Will he love her enough to let her go, more importantly does he trust her enough to come back?

On her journey she stumbles across Jai after getting a job as a waitress in Bombay. The place her ma says she was from. After just one meeting she feels a sort of connection to him and has a need to know him better even though she has feelings for Luke. She can’t explain it at first or maybe just doesn’t want to until the answer is thrown in her face. She knows she is 100% human and surrounded by her own kind but still she feels disconnected in the Utopia world she now finds herself in. Something just doesn’t seem right about it, its too perfect with a lack of emotion from anybody. Not too sure about the way she kept explaining the emotions she was having in her head though. Its like she needed to explain it by a dictionary definition, maybe because others don’t seem to have or show emotions anymore. Emotions are such a key part of a pack; you have to be able to read each other to protect each other. Her journey was to find out where she’s really from but it might just help her finally see where she really belongs and with whom.

Excerpt

His tongue flicks out to touch his lips. Can he still taste blood?

His eyes flick to my lips, down to my throat, my breasts, lower, lower still. I’m close enough to see the golden flecks in his eyes shine. Smell that hard man smell of his which tugs at me. Heat from him spools towards me hitting me squarely in my chest, pulling at my stomach, churning my guts and I shudder.

His eyes widen, and as if unable to help himself, he lowers his mouth brushing my lips once, twice, thrice. Teasing me, nibbling at me, caressing my lips till I feel the heat inside twist and glow, till the lighting tree on my back sizzles, sparking fire.

I moan and reaching up capture his mouth with mine, thrusting my tongue against his; and feel the shock run through him.

He’s still just for a second, then he’s leaning into me, on me till I am surrounded by him, his touch, his skin, that cinnamon smell of his, which is so Vik. Heat from his body pushes at me, begging to be let in, holding me captive and I feel a trickle of sweat running down between my breasts. Breath coming out in short bursts, I strain against him, trying to free my shackled arms, but he doesn’t let go. He also doesn’t stop there.

His mouth lowers to my throat, pushing aside the bathrobe till he bares the curve of my shoulder, then bites me, lightly.

My heart slams against my rib cage at that, my eyes flutter shut and I bite my lips to stop myself from crying out. At the pain trembling down to my belly.

He kisses the skin, licking his tongue over the exact same spot and this time I shiver, but he’s already trailing his lips down to my breasts. His hand grips the flare of my lips and this time, I moan aloud as his fingers splay out over my belly.

And it’s as if the sound gets through to him, for he’s suddenly leaning back.

My eyes fly open and I look up at his face, want to trace his lips, run my fingers through his hair and once again I arch my back, push against him and this time he lets me go.

Even as I watch a shutter comes down over his eyes and they lose that bright glow I’d seen there just a second ago.

I know then, he’s going to leave and walk away and I can’t let him go.

Not now, not when I can tell he’s feeling something for me.

When my insides are churning as if this is the only thing that matters. When the emotions overwhelming me wipe out all that has happened before this, making me feel clean. When I don’t care who he is, or where he comes from or what his real relation is to Dr B. When something inside me senses that deep at his core, where it matters, he is honest at least as far as whatever ‘this’ between us is concerned.

I want him.

And I want to make him want me.

Make him show me how much he wants me.
