Everyone’s impressed, well except one person…
After a blow out in high school, Makenna Halstead and I were happy to never have to cross paths again. Except life has a way of knocking you straight in the teeth with a puck when you least expect it. She hasn’t just returned to my life, she crashed into it like a wrecking ball…into my college kingdom, into my class, and smack dab into the seat next to mine. My new lab partner to be exact.
For years we hated each other… I may be King on the ice, but she is the Ice Queen. She has no problem calling me out, doesn’t back down, and her piercing blue eyes have me picturing more than than just my arms wrapped around her.
Now we’re stuck with each other and there’s no getting around that fact that we have to work together. My hockey career hangs in the balance. Problem? Oh, yeah.
I can’t deny it. I want her. More than I ever thought I could want a woman. I’ve got one semester–only four months–to convince her everything she thought about me was wrong.
Will my queen let me prove to her I’m the King she can’t live without?
Only one way to find out…

1: Tell us a little about yourself and what got you in to writing?
I’m Maya Hughes, romance writer, mom of 3 and wife to an incredibly supportive husband. I got into writing when one of my friends got tired of me complaining about the stories bouncing around in my head and how I’d one day write them down. She just said, why not start today? Something clicked and I’ve pretty much written every single day since then.
2: Do you have a favourite time and place where you write?
In the mornings always works best for me. I do it before the kids wake up and before I head out to work. Once I have even a few words done for the day, I can relax a bit and work on other things through the day guilt-free! I write anywhere I can, but usually in our office.
3: Where do your ideas come from?
Anything, really. It can be a song. Someone I see on the street or something that comes completely from my imagination. Sometimes a story comes knocking and I HAVE to write it.
4: Do you have a plan in your head of where the story is going before you start writing or do you let it carry you along as you go?
I generally start with an outline, but the story evolves as I write no matter how much I try to plan ahead. The more I write the story, the better I get to know the characters. The more I know about them gives their voice and the direction a much more powerful thrust.
5: What genre are your books and what drew you to that genre?
My books are mainly contemporary romance. My upcoming book, Shameless King, is a new adult and college romance, so that’s a little different, but they all have the same overall feel. I throw in some laughs, a few tears, lots of emotions and a story of two people finding each other, however that might be.
6: What dream cast would you like to see playing the characters in your latest book?
I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it too much. I’ve never really matched up my characters to any actors currently out there.
7: Do you read much and if so who are your favourite authors?
I don’t read too much anymore, which is a shame. I wish I could read more. Some of my favs in this non-exhaustive list are Kylie Scott, Penelope Douglas, Laurann Dohner, Theodora Taylor and so many many more.
8: What book/s are you reading at present?
I’m re-reading a lot of older books I’ve enjoyed reading before. I like to re-read when I’m writing because these are stories I know and they don’t stress me out!
9: What is your favourite book and why?
I don’t have one single favorite. I have so many different moods when it comes to my reading and one book might work one day or week or month and later it won’t as much.
10: What advice would you give for someone thinking about becoming a writer?
Write every day. Even if you can only write 50 words, do that and keep doing that until your book is finished!
11: What are the best Social Media Sites for people to find out about you and your work?

About the Author:
Maya Hughes is a Jersey girl, no not that kind! And she also thinks it’s super weird to talk about herself in third person 🙂 I’m a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, the music I listen to, and the people I know to create stories that sparkle and shine.
I’m the mom of three little ones, the wife to an amazing husband and also work full time. Some of my favorite things are cinnamon rolls, white wine, laughing until I can’t breathe and traveling with my family.
