Fleeing her arranged marriage, Adeline seeks sanctuary in Geistheim Abbey. Within its cursed walls she finds the beautiful, scarred monk, Daghan, who offers her shelter—for a price.

Daghan needs a pure soul to break his curse. Adeline isn’t sure how pure she can be when she lusts after this stranger so badly. But before they can find out, Adeline’s cruel fiance arrives at Geistheim to reclaim her. And he won’t leave without a fight.

Goes down as another off my 2019 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book with a red cover. Well there is red on the cover so I’m counting it.

Sanctuary needed at Geistheim Abby where all might not be as it seems. Adeline runs from her father and family home in fear of an arranged marriage with Falken. She knew that she would be all but carried off as soon as the deal was signed so needed to escape. Even the stormy night wasn’t enough to stop her, fear of the man being too great. She rides to Geistheim Abbey to seek sanctuary but finds it will come at a price. With what fate beholds her possible future there isn’t much she wouldn’t give.

Daghan has been at the Geistheim Abbey for years. Now deserted he holds fast to the place but for dark reasons. He wanted to learn more about his faith but sought answers in the wrong places. Realising too late the costs of his choices. A curse befalls him with only one way to break it. Can the curse be lifted and Adeline be kept safe in the process?

She might find him mysterious and alluring – pure innocence to the wicked divine when they draw close – but has to hold back when trouble comes knocking. Falken doesn’t like rejection and is willing to fight. How soon before he learns shadows are something to fear?

Interesting free short read. Could have gone into a bit more development with the characters, or just made it a little longer, but all in all an ok quick read. Would be interesting to learn more of Daghan’s backstory and curse to see how he got to where he is. Might be part of a series but didn’t feel relevant so can be read as a standalone.

3 out of 5 stars
