Book Review: ‘Confessions of a Naughty Nanny’ by Piper Rayne

Blurb:

When a famous music producer moves to Lake Starlight it can’t just be a coincidence. It’s the universe helping to move things along in the right direction so that Griffin Thorne can discover me.

I have to confess—I’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Confession #1: I may have overhead that he was in search of a nanny. What can I say? My brother has a big mouth.

Confession #2: It’s possible I helped along the assumption that I had nanny experience. Hey, babysitting my nieces and nephew counts, right?

Confession #3: There’s a good chance I oversold my qualifications. But my Grandma Dori backed me up, so it’s not completely my fault.

And it worked. He hired me. Only for me to find out that he left the business.
I guess it’s on to Plan B.

When he accidentally overhears me singing, I expect nothing from him. Then he asks to work with me on a song for our town’s Founder’s Day Parade and it feels like a dream come true. Until…

Confession #4: I’ve fallen for him.

Review:

Interesting getting inside Phoenix’s head to see what makes her tick. She wants to make it as a singer but doesn’t want to admit to her family that she couldn’t make it in LA on her own and that’s why she came home. Comes across as immature to begin with in her plan of action of getting close to Griffin. He might be new to Lake Starlight but not new to the music business and in need of a nanny. Can you guess how she wants him to notice her? Though to be fair Dori did play a hand in selling the idea that she was a nanny and not just watching her nieces and nephew.

Bad news for Phoenix is that Griffin is out of the music business. He just wants a fresh start for him and his son Mav in Lake Starlight. A place where hopefully he can start acting like a little boy again and not so focused on his phone. Though should an 8 year old really have one? I guess it’s more to do with how he has been brought up by that point. New place, new people, new school, and now a new nanny, will they all cope? Her duties will mostly entail dropping Mav to and from school, cooking and a bit of cleaning. Did I mention it was a live in position? Seems both might soon be having a problem with that fact, how long before they stop fighting what they are both clearly feeling?

Family duty for Phoenix is always on her mind, as with all the Baileys, with the Founders day coming up and having to sing. It’s when Griffin hears her voice that things change. Mad for a moment in thinking she’s using him but agrees to help after her quick sort of reason. It’s when he starts helping with her voice that the walls come down and we see more of the real Phoenix and not what she shows everyone. She evolves throughout the story the longer she is in the carer mode. Has a connection with Mav, as well as his dad, growing more each day, wanting to look out for them. Did like the hike where cards were put on the table – think he liked being a bad cliché by having the hots for the nanny.

Starting something that is doomed to end when secrets are revealed, or if/when Phoenix wants to try and make it again in LA. Her confidence got knocked more than her family realised and putting herself out there again is scary. Not as much with Griffin in her corner. But will he stay there?

Love all the other Baileys making appearances throughout. When it rains it pours comes to mind when three of them have interesting announcements to make at the end. Dori is her classic self. Loved when she was trying to get a certain persons head on straight and started going off on tangents to help but realising some of those will be for other people later down the road. She really does have it all sorted out with how to pair up all her grandchildren. Might have a tricky job with the next one though. Juno my girl what have you done. I really need to know what’s going on in your head. You’ve had the perfect guy waiting for so long and have both always pushed the whole ‘we’re just friends’ thing forever and a day. Just when you get your head out of the sand you might see that your window has closed shut.

Book Review: ‘Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy’ by Piper Rayne

Blurb:

You might be wondering how you’ll know when your playboy ways are coming to an end. For some it might be an unexpected pregnancy (ahem… you know who), for others it might be finally landing the one woman you’ve always wanted (cough… I won’t mention any names). For me, it was the death of my mentor and the subsequent reading of his will.

The signs were there, they always are. But I didn’t notice them until it was too late, and my demise was complete.

Demise Sign #1 – You find yourself thrust into the land of responsibility and you don’t immediately hightail it out of town.

Demise Sign #2 – Despite being stuck with the world’s biggest Jekyll & Hyde, some sadistic part of you actually enjoys spending time with her.

Demise Sign #3 – Your family suddenly stops wanting to weigh in on every decision in your life.

Demise Sign #4 – Somehow you end up being the voice of reason in your tumultuous partnership.

Demise Sign #5 – You start thinking of other people before yourself.

Demise Sign #6 – You agree to put yourself in the middle of an Alaskan reality TV show that has both of you sleeping in the same tent.

Demise Complete.

Review:

Denver has been such a funny character that I couldn’t wait to get inside his head and find the woman who was going to put a stop to his playboy ways. Seems Cleo is that woman but things don’t go as smoothly as you would think. First off she hates his guts so its not so good that her late father Chip left his business Lifetime Adventures as a 50/50 share between the both of them in his will. They are about to be business partners with no way of not being around each other. What could possibly go wrong – or maybe right in certain circumstances?

Now Cleo really doesn’t come across great to begin with at all with how she acts around Denver, and a few others. She has such a chip on her shoulder with wanting to prove that she can do this on her own that she comes across as a stuck up rich girl just trying to ‘play’ boss. She didn’t have the closest relationship with her father and I think she resents the fact that he was close to Denver. Kind of shoving it in her face with both being left the business. Thing is said business is failing and they need to work together to find a way to save it or that’s it for Lifetime Adventures. Might be time to take a few adventure trips of their own to move the business in a new direction, you never know what revelations might come up to the surface with spending more time together – especially with sleeping in the same tent. That’s not the only thing coming up to the surface with chemistry bubbling away – helps when Denver doesn’t have his shirt on.

Now I may not have liked Cleo to begin with but that does change once you get inside her head a little. When she gets off her high horse and starts to act like the ‘real’ her – with a little help from Denver – you can see why he might be starting to fall. He’s not the only one. She’s just a little lost, not really knowing where she truly fits in and where could feel like home. Perhaps with spending more time with Denver she can get to see that Lake Starlight could be that home – with him added on as a bonus.

Love that Dori always has to play a part with getting people together. Even when you don’t see her you know she is pulling the strings somewhere with getting all her grandchildren happy and paired off. The rest of the clan pops up throughout but this time around they are not telling Denver what to do with his life but making him decide for himself. Time to grow up and take charge, you might end up liking the results. Another great read from a series I really like.

Release Blitz: ‘The Rival Roomies’ by Piper Rayne

Release Date: May 12

I’ve loved him from afar.

Though most times he’s only a foot away.

I’m smart enough to know he’ll never be anyone’s forever.

He checks all the bad boy boxes. Tattoos. Check. Motorcycle. Check. Chip on his shoulder. Check check.

If he wasn’t my neighbor and friend I may have thrown myself at him. Okay, yeah. I wouldn’t. Because guys like Dylan don’t want a woman who writes kid’s math textbooks under him in bed. Instead, I pathetically savor morsels of moments where I have his sole attention.

That was until his archenemy moved in with me. Now suddenly, Dylan’s moving in too and warning off the first guy in a long time who’s showing me interest. Could he finally see me as more than a friend, or am I just a prize to win and show off to his enemy?
